Legal Sea Foods opens in Cambridge.

Originally the Inman Fish Market or That Fishy Place, it is operated by George Berkowitz and is an outgrowth and located next to the Legal Cash Market, which was opened by his father, Harry Berkowitz, in 1904. After first adding picnic tables and family-style seating, and the first Legal Sea Foods restaurant opens nearby in 1968 and is destroyed by a fire in 1980 . Additional restaurants open in Chestnut Hill in 1975 and in Park Square in 1980. The business is taken over by George’s son Roger Berkowitz in 1992, expands to include more than 30 restaurants along the East Coast. The restaurants are sold to PPX Hospitality Group in 2020.
